Syrian government forces say they have pushed the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, known as ISIS) group out of eastern Aleppo.
The military is now planning to launch an operation to take over Raqqa, which is ISIL’s last remaining stronghold in Syria.
But that could put them in the path of their rivals – the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which has been preparing an assault on ISIL in Raqqa.
